TPN-associated Liver Disease

Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) often causes liver disease, which seems to be associated specifically with Intralipid, the standard omega-6 based fatty acid. Such liver disease can be prevented or cured by a new omega-3 based fatty acid: Omegaven is saving lives! Click here for more info.

Severity progression of liver disease is typically: Cholestasis, Fibrosis, Bridging Fibrosis, Portal Hypertension, Gastrointestinal bleeding, Varices
