NeuroBioClusters: a Biological Neural Network Simulation and Analysis Tool Workstation

Abstract

NeuroBioClusters is a computer program devoted to the simulation of interacting biological neural networks and the analysis of their behavior. It allows the simulation of several interacting networks made of biologically plausible modebed neurons. Networks can be built using either explicit (irregular or regular) or implicit connectivity. They can be constituted of similar or different neurons. A clusters, the basic entity of NeuroBioClusters, is a collection of similar neurons and can be either geographically localized or not. Two levels of units description are available (membrane potential temporal evolution or conductance modeling). Axon length and inter neural delays can be modelized, and several types of external tonic or phasic input are available. It allows the possibility to modify, during the simulation (uu vol) the input, the membrane potential, the firing threshold, and even some anatomical characteristics. This allows to mimic modiflcations of the environmental conditions or pathological situations. It is menu driven with an user friendly interface. The outputs are given as function of time, and represent the whole neural net activity, those of each cluster, and the membrane potential of each neuron. A complete set of frequency and time domain analysis are available for the network behavior analysis.
