A social worker will typically assist with such things as addressing your financial and housing needs while your child is in the hospital. They can help with transportation needs. They may be able to arrange discount parking in the hospital parking garage, discount hotels near the hospital, meal passes for the cafeteria and help direct you to agencies who can help with other needs. They may also be able to provide you with information regarding how to appy for SSI or Medical Assistance. If you are looking for supports or resources, they may have information on local support groups, therapy/counseling, local agencies and internet resources.
