Some children who are tube fed better tolerate (decreased gas, vomiting, etc) homemade formula in their tube feeds. It can also help the child with oral feeding aversions transition to oral feeds better because the body is being introduced to table foods through the tube feeds first. Also, it allows the parent and older child to take a more active role in "preparing" a meal, rather than just opening a can. This takes a lot of work and it is necessary to work closely with a dietician (you might have to search around to find someone who is willing to do this) to ensure the formula has the correct amount of calories, fluids and nutrition for your child.
