Continuous g-tube feeds vs. oral feeding
From ShortGut - Wiki
Some people take as much advantage as possible of g-tube feedings, because:
- absorption should be better with continuous feeds than with bolus feeds
- feeds have to come up to reduce TPN dependence
- continuous feeds may aid in growth of the intestine since it is constantly at work
Others prefer bolus feeds, for:
- triggering appetite
- providing oral experiences
Some families have apparently experienced better absorption of bolus feeds compared to continuous feeds, but doctors say this is impossible.
